Who Can Participate?

There are two basic requirements:

Country of Birth

Native of a qualifying country, a country that is eligible to participate in the Diversity Visa Lottery. One’s country of citizenship is not important in this process. What is most important is the country of your birth.

Individuals who were born in countries with high immigration to the U.S.A. are temporary excluded from the list.

If you were born in one of these countries you may still participate based on the country of birth of your spouse or parents.

 The following countries are excluded from the lottery program (subject to change):
• China (mainland only)
• Vietnam
• South Korea
• Philippines
• Brazil
• Peru
• Pakistan
• India
• Mexico
• Jamaica
• United Kingdom (except N.Ireland)
• Canada
• Dominican Republic
• Colombia
• Haiti
• El Salvador
• Poland
• Guatemala
• Ecuador

Education / Work Experience

The only other requirement is a certification of completion of secondary school education (comparable to the US high school diploma) OR a minimum of two years of work experience (within the past five years) in an occupation that requires at least two years of training.
Proof of these prerequisites are only necessary when and if a lottery participant wins a Green Card. They are not necessary when you are simply submitting the application.
